He was a proud owner of a Mini and was looking to add a touch of individuality to his beloved ride. The task? To upscale the original Momo 10" wheels, a classic design that once graced many Minis in their heyday, to a size more suitable for his present-day needs.

These Momo wheels, with their iconic design, were a staple of the Mini and an important part of its visual character. They exemplified the 60s, when the Mini first burst onto the scene, and had become somewhat of a rarity in recent years. Our client sought to bring back a piece of that nostalgia, but in a size that catered to the modern road and his own driving preferences.

The design process for this project was a thorough one. Upscaling an iconic design like the Momo wheels required a delicate balance. We needed to retain the essence of the original design while ensuring that the increased size did not compromise the Mini's distinctive handling characteristics or the overall aesthetics of the car. It was a process of adaptation, modification, and constant communication with the client.

The material of choice for this project was T6-6061 aluminium, renowned for its high strength, corrosion resistance, and excellent machinability. Leonard Lord, the head of the British Motor Corporation (BMC), saw an opportunity amidst the crisis and issued a challenge to his design team: create a small, affordable, fuel-efficient car capable of carrying four adults.

Sir Alec Issigonis, a visionary engineer, took up this challenge. His design principles were simple - the car should be compact, affordable, economical to run, and have room for four passengers and their luggage. Despite these constraints, Issigonis saw a way to achieve these goals without compromising on comfort or driveability.

The result was the Mini, first launched in 1959. The car was just 10 feet long, but thanks to its innovative front-wheel drive layout and transversely mounted engine - a pioneering concept at the time - it offered surprising space efficiency. The Mini could comfortably seat four passengers, with room left for luggage, a feat that many considered impossible for a car of its size.
